Domaine des Barbatruks

Maxim has learned his craft from two amazing winemakers in Arbois, Domaine Gérard Villet and Domaine de l’Octavin and after several years working for them, he started his own small domaine in 2017. The wine making is old school and the work is intense. Everything in the vineyard is done by hand where the combination of the work in the vineyard and a very low yield results in characterful fruit. Although the vineyards are not certified, Maxim works according to biodynamic principles where he treats the vines with inoculation of scab grass as a natural fungicide, sheep manure and buried cows horn as a natural nutrition for the soil. Maxim and Isabelle has microscopic 1.1 hectares divided over 4 vineyards. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay near his childhood home in Montigny-lès-Arsures, a stone's throw from Arbois, Poulsard in Pupillin, Chardonnay and Savagnin in Arbois. In 2018 Maxim teamed up with his sommelier partner Isabelle Delahaye to help with the domaine wines and their new négociant project Les Barbatruks.
